Using Daily Spelling

By using this website or subscribing to the email, you agree to these terms. Students can use the website freely without signing up. The email subscription is for teachers and parents.

The service

Daily Spelling offers a free daily word with its pronunciation, definition, example sentence and origin note, grade-level word lists, and a weekly practice test. We may change, pause or improve parts of the service over time, and we'll let subscribers know about significant changes.

Classroom and home use

• Teachers, schools and parents are welcome to use the daily words, lists, notes and practice test with students, including on classroom screens.
• If you share our notes publicly, please credit Daily Spelling and link to dailyspelling.site.
• Please don't republish the archive in bulk, resell our content, or present it as your own.

Acceptable use

Don't try to disrupt the site, sign up other people without their permission, or use automated tools to flood the sign-up form.

Practice, not grading

The practice card and weekly test are for self-checking. Results aren't saved or reported to anyone, and they aren't a formal assessment.

Accuracy

We check every word, definition and origin note against established dictionaries and references. Even so, spellings and pronunciations can vary between regions and sources, and word histories are sometimes debated. The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind.

Content ownership

The Daily Spelling name, logo, design, and the written notes on this site are ours. The words themselves, of course, belong to everyone.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page.
